Former WNBA President Donna Orender Partners with Celebrity Contributors to Inspire Girls and Women in New Book
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., July 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Seven out of ten girls feel they don't measure up academically, physically, or socially. 74% of girls feel they are under pressure to please everyone. These statistics confirm what we already know: the leaders of tomorrow need our support today. In an effort to change the game for girls and women, former WNBA president and founder of Generation W and Generation WOW Donna Orender and her team have collaborated with leaders from every field to create WOWsdom! The Girl's Guide to the Positive and the Possible (Mascot Books, July 10, 2018).
Jam-packed with letters, activities, and no-nonsense advice from influencers, including CBS News Business Analyst Jill Schlesinger, Queen Sugar actress Tina Lifford, CNN Editor-at-Large Kelly Wallace, student activist Taylor Richardson, founder of the Muhammad Ali Center Lonnie Ali, and superstar athlete Annika Sorenstam, WOWsdom! celebrates the WOW of girls and the WISDOM of women. In letters written to themselves, women, men, and girls from all walks of life—artists, athletes, actors, business leaders, entrepreneurs, students, doctors, scientists, and humanitarians—share their hard-earned wisdom for girls who are seeking guidance and inspiration as they begin their personal and professional journeys.
In an effort to reach girls nationwide, Orender and Generation WOW have created the Share the WOW program, which allows businesses and individuals to purchase copies of WOWsdom! to send to schools, organizations, and charities of their choice. On July 10, Orender will present 100 copies of WOWsdom! to PowerPlayNYC, a nonprofit that uses sports to help girls develop physical, emotional, and academic strength.
This book is just the beginning of what Orender sees as a developing national movement that gives girls the opportunities and tools they need to succeed. "In thinking about the why of this book, we knew we wanted girls to be better prepared for the adventure of life ahead," Orender writes. "We know that mentorship and leadership is life-changing and valued by girls. This book and the clubs it inspires helps girls be more aware and ignites their desire to be curious and to love learning: the easy lessons and the hard."
Donna Orender is available for appearances and interviews. For additional information, please visit wowsdom.com or contact Michelle Webber at 571-665-2895 or [email protected].
