WASHINGTON, March 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The global law firm Jones Day today announced that Donald F. McGahn II will join the Firm's Washington Office as the U.S. Practice Leader of the Firm's Government Regulation Practice.
As the incoming leader of the Firm's Government Regulation Practice, Mr. McGahn will manage its efforts representing clients before government agencies, in enforcement matters, and in court disputes arising from government regulation or action. He will handle litigation, crisis management, and regulatory compliance issues, and will also advise clients on matters related to the changing regulatory and political landscape.
Mr. McGahn rejoins the Firm after leaving in early 2017 to serve as Counsel to the President of the United States. In this role, he served as the top legal advisor to the President of the United States on all policy, legislative, and regulatory matters, and led the Administration's historic judicial confirmation efforts as well as its far-reaching initiatives to rescind burdensome governmental regulations.
"As the complexity of issues facing all regulated industries continues to rise, the need for informed advice and judgment is more important than ever. Don's unique experience building, managing, and advising the Administration's legal team, combined with his decades of work with Congress on numerous key regulatory issues will provide invaluable insight to our clients," said Kevyn Orr, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Washington Office.
Mr. McGahn rejoins Jones Day after serving as partner from June 2014 - January 2017. During that time, he focused on litigation, administrative and constitutional law, congressional investigations, government ethics, and political law. Previously, Mr. McGahn was a Commissioner at the Federal Election Commission, including serving as Chairman in 2008 and Vice-Chairman in 2013. Since leaving the White House, Mr. McGahn was appointed by the President to the Administrative Council of the United States, a nonpartisan independent agency dedicated to promoting improvement to administrative agency process.
"I am eager to rejoin Jones Day's cohesive partnership that so effectively protects and advances the interests of its clients through seamless collaboration across practices and jurisdictions," said Mr. McGahn. "I look forward to working with clients to address challenges related to disputes and enforcement, solving problems in a holistic manner, and generally helping clients navigate what can be a very intricate and complicated government environment."
