Former U.S. Representative Phil Gingrey, MD, Joins Drinker Biddle's Government & Regulatory Affairs Practice
WASHINGTON, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP has announced that former United States Representative Phil Gingrey, MD, has joined the firm's Government & Regulatory Affairs Practice Group as a Senior Advisor. He will be based in the Washington, D.C. office and will work closely with the District Policy Group, the firm's boutique lobbying, public policy, and advocacy practice.
Dr. Gingrey was a Republican U.S. Representative who served Georgia's 11th congressional district for 12 years, following his time in the Georgia State Senate and on his local school board. He brings federal, state, and local policymaking experience to the firm and significant policy expertise in the areas of health care, energy and environment, education, communications, and life sciences. As a Senior Advisor, he will provide clients with public policy and government relations counsel.
"Congressman Gingrey is respected across the aisle and brings extensive bipartisan relationships with members of Congress, committee leadership, the Executive branch and Federal agencies," said Mary Devlin Capizzi, an Executive Partner who oversees the firm's regulatory services practice groups. "Dr. Gingrey strengthens our Government & Regulatory Affairs Practice profile in Washington, D.C. and enhances our knowledge in policy areas that dovetail with the firm's client base. We are excited to have him join the firm."
During his time in Congress, Dr. Gingrey served on numerous influential committees including the House Committee on Energy & Commerce and its Health Subcommittee, the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the Committee on Armed Services. As a result, he has strong relationships with physician groups, the insurance industry, the pharmaceutical industry, medical device and durable medical equipment manufacturers, hospital systems, patient organizations and other industries such as energy, communications and education.
"I was proud to represent the 11th District of Georgia as a member of Congress for the past 12 years, and am excited to now be joining the respected, growing Government & Regulatory Affairs Practice at Drinker Biddle & Reath. This opportunity will allow me to focus on the issues I am passionate about, more so than the day-to-day politics of being a member of Congress," said Congressman Gingrey. "I'm looking forward to working with the firm's diverse set of clients to help shape positive outcomes and bridge the gap between their policy goals and the intricacies of Congress."
"The addition of Congressman Gingrey is the latest milestone for the District Policy Group," said Laura H. Phillips, partner and chair of the firm's Government & Regulatory Affairs Practice Group. "He will play an integral role as we continue to expand our bipartisan team and further enhance our public policy and government relations offerings to clients in healthcare, energy, trade and communications."
Dr. Gingrey received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Georgia Tech and then attended the Medical College of Georgia. He operated and managed a private OB-GYN practice for more than 27 years and delivered more than 5,000 babies during his years practicing medicine.
He remains active in his community and serves on several boards. His community affiliations include the Georgia Regents Health System Board of Directors; the Georgia World Congress Center Authority Board of Directors; Good Samaritan Health Center Volunteer Position and Advisory Board Member; WestSide Community Bank Board of Directors (Hiram, Georgia); and the Board of Directors for the Cumberland Academy of Georgia (Atlanta), which specializes in the needs of children with high-functioning Autism, Asperger's, ADD, ADHD and other learning differences.
