Former Treasury Department Senior Advisor Austin Bramwell to Rejoin Milbank's Trusts & Estates Group
Austin Bramwell Played a Key Role in Crafting the Tax Reform Legislation in the Trusts & Estates Area
NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP is pleased to announce that Austin Bramwell, who departed the Firm in June 2017 to serve as the Senior Advisor in the Office of Tax Policy in the Treasury Department, has rejoined the New York office as a partner in the Trusts & Estates Group. Mr. Bramwell has a breadth of expertise that spans a range of trust and estate matters, including domestic and international estate and charitable planning, tax, compliance, organization and strategic matters.
Mr. Bramwell started his career with Milbank in 2005 as an associate in the Trusts & Estates Group. He was promoted to partner in 2014, where he became the primary attorney in the Group for consultations on complex and technical tax matters and served as lead partner on several high-stakes matters. He left the firm in June 2017 to join the Treasury Department as Senior Advisor in the Office of Tax Policy. In this role, Mr. Bramwell worked directly on the new tax reform legislation in the trusts and estates area as well as on important regulatory projects within the Treasury Department. In his return to private practice, Mr. Bramwell will advise individuals, families and nonprofit organizations, including private foundations and public charities. He will also continue to represent corporate and individual fiduciaries in trust and estate administration matters, including in litigation, as well as taxpayers in contested proceedings.
Scott A. Edelman, Chairman of Milbank, said: "We are extremely proud of Austin for the integral role he played within the Treasury Department, and are delighted to welcome him back to Milbank. We expect 2018 to be busier than ever, particularly given the opportunities that the increased transfer tax exemptions afford our clients with the passage of the new tax law. Austin's role as a key player in the writing of the new tax law has further elevated his national reputation, and he returns to Milbank with strong relationships with staff at the Treasury and a wealth of knowledge and experience that will tremendously benefit our clients and the firm as a whole as we continue to grow."
Georgiana Slade, head of the firm's Trusts & Estates Group, added: "Austin has been a crucial member of the Trusts & Estates Group. He has presence, technical expertise, and a national reputation. Having worked closely with Austin, I am confident that he will quickly resume his role as a wonderful and collaborative colleague, an eager mentor to associates in the Group, and a fierce advocate on behalf of his clients – many of whom have regularly inquired about his return."
Mr. Bramwell, said: "After an incredibly rewarding eight months with the Treasury Department, I could not be happier to return to my Milbank team. I am looking forward to bringing to the firm the fresh perspective, new relationships and tremendous experience I gained at the Treasury to more effectively assist our impressive and expansive roster of clients."
Mr. Bramwell has also been an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York University School of Law and is a frequent lecturer on estate planning topics.
