Move highlights accelerating role of thermal storage in the transition to a distributed energy future
GLENDALE, Calif., June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice Energy, a leading provider of distributed thermal energy storage and smart grid solutions, welcomes James "Jim" Kelly to its board of directors.
Kelly, who led transmission and distribution for Southern California Edison (SCE) in a distinguished career of 38 years, brings not only deep experience but also a vision for the role of energy storage in the 21st century power grid.
"Ice Energy has proven itself a serious contributor to our clean energy future, with over 20 million hours of continuous fleet service at utilities across the nation," Kelly said. "I see a great need for what Ice Energy can offer: clean, firm, dispatchable negawatts. Not megawatts, but negawatts. The cleanest kilowatt-hours are the ones we don't consume. Ice Energy's technology allows customers to meaningfully contribute to a cleaner energy future with no loss of comfort, productivity or competitiveness. That's a unique space in the energy marketplace, and one that we can be proud of. I really look forward to improving our environment through my work as an Ice Energy board member."
Since his retirement from SCE in 2011, Jim has remained a force in shaping the future of energy. His current roles include CEO and director of ARES North America, director at S&C Electric Company, Blue Earth, OneRoof Energy, Inc. and Dynamic Engineers, Inc.; chief technology officer and partner at Sandidge Consulting; advisory board member at GRIDiant Corporation and On-Ramp Wireless, Inc.; partner at Muni-Fed Streetlight Solutions and Coachella Partners; managing director and board member at The Power of Leadership; advisor at MWH Global and Eos Energy Storage, and energy advisor to the nation of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Ice Energy CEO Dave Prezioso said, "Jim has demonstrated leadership in innovative energy solutions over the last five decades with deep experience in engineering, regulatory policy, finance, ratemaking, research and development, environmental stewardship, and transmission, substation and distribution planning and operations. He brings a valued perspective to our board, particularly as landmark commitments to energy storage and real demand response technologies are gaining momentum as integral and indispensable components of our clean, distributed global energy future."
