Former Senior SEC Official Joins Murphy & McGonigle
Larry E. Bergmann, Former Senior Associate Director in the Division of Trading and Markets, Joins Law Firm's Washington, DC Office
WASHINGTON, Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Murphy & McGonigle, P.C. announced that Larry E. Bergmann has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington, DC office. Mr. Bergmann brings to the firm substantial experience in broker-dealer regulatory compliance and securities markets issues, including many years as a senior regulator in the SEC's Division of Trading and Markets.

Mr. Bergmann served with the SEC from 1975 until January 2006. He began as a staff attorney in the Northeast Regional Office, and subsequently transferred to the Division of Enforcement in Washington, DC, where he became a Branch Chief. He was promoted to Assistant Director for Trading Practices in the Division of Market Regulation (now known as the Division of Trading and Markets) in 1984 and to Associate Director in 1988, and then to Senior Associate Director for Trading Practices and Processing.
As Senior Associate Director, Mr. Bergmann's responsibilities included oversight of the following areas: the SEC's trading practices rules; rules applying to short sales; activities of research analysts; issuer repurchases of their own stock; and "soft dollar" interpretations. Among other provisions, he was responsible for the development and administration of Regulation M, Regulation SHO, and the SEC's interpretive guidance on Section 28(e) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
After leaving the SEC, Mr. Bergmann practiced for several years with the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
