Forum to Release New Demographic Trends Impacting Maine's Housing Land
WASHINGTON, July 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) Housing Commission and Jack Kemp Foundation will jointly host a public forum on housing issues in Bar Harbor, Maine at the College of the Atlantic on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 12:00PM to 5:00PM.
The forum will feature former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, a co-chair of BPC's Housing Commission, Barbara G. Fields, Regional Administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Tammye Trevino, Rural Housing Services Administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Leading local, regional and national housing experts will discuss the need for affordable housing in rural areas, the importance of addressing housing challenges through a more efficient and coordinated system, and the opportunities for integrating housing with other social services. At the forum, BPC will also release new data showing the demographic trends impacting the housing landscape in Maine compared to the rest of the United States.
This event is the fourth regional forum hosted by BPC's Housing Commission. Launched in October 2011, the Commission aims to reform the nation's housing policy by crafting realistic and actionable policy recommendations that consider the long-term challenges in the housing sector. Throughout 2012, the Commission has been visiting different regions of the country to hear first-hand from stakeholders and interest groups about the housing challenges affecting its citizens.
