Former PwC Managing Partner, Tony Conti, Named Interim President and CEO of United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey
PHILADELPHIA, June 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Anthony J. Conti, retired managing partner of PwC's Philadelphia office, has been named interim president and CEO of United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ). He will serve on a volunteer basis. The announcement was made by Lon Greenberg, chairman, UGI Corporation/AmeriGas and chair of UWGPSNJ's regional Board of Directors.
According to Greenberg, the board's choice of Conti fulfills two commitments it made when UWGPSNJ President and CEO Jill Michal announced her resignation on May 22.
"We promised to have an interim president and CEO in place by June 30, and said it would be someone who had impeccable credentials and knew the organization and its mission. Tony Conti fits both descriptions," said Greenberg. "Tony has long been a supporter of United Way, as a board member, chair of the annual campaign, and chair of the Nonprofit Excellence Council. He knows United Way more intimately than most, giving him an edge in getting up to speed on the needs of the organization, short and long-term."
The organization also announced that its search for a permanent successor to Michal is about to begin, although no details have been released and a timetable has not yet been set.
"We fully expect that Tony Conti's acceptance of the interim president and CEO position will ensure a seamless transition, not only from Jill to him, but from him to whomever is named permanent president and CEO. It's another wonderful example of the business community's commitment to United Way – one that overtly supports United Way's critical role in this region as a philanthropic partner and strategic investor in the health and human services sector," Greenberg added.
Conti retired in 2009 after 36 years with PwC, including four years as managing partner of its regional office in Philadelphia.
