Former Navy Fighter Pilot, Jake Ellzey Files in 6th Congressional District
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Conservative veteran Jake Ellzey has filed to run for Congress to represent Texas' 6th Congressional District.
Two weeks ago, a survey of the 6th Congressional District was commissioned to test the strength of longtime incumbent Joe Barton. Many Republican primary voters agree that Barton has lost touch with the views of his constituents.
"After prayerful consideration, and with encouragement from family, friends and local leaders, today I filed to run in the Republican primary for United States Congress," said Jake Ellzey. "Recent reports about Congressman Barton's sexually explicit photos appearing on the internet have had no bearing on my decision. The poll was commissioned and completed before the unfortunate news became public."
An overwhelming number of people voted against establishment candidates and career politicians in the last election. In the 2016 Republican primary, more than 40 percent of voters in CD 6 voted against Barton; who has been in Congress for over 30 years. Jake Ellzey's combat military service and experience as a small business owner offer voters a stark contrast to politicians who make a career out of elected office.
"We really do need to drain the swamp in Washington," Ellzey said. "Our Congressmen should be laser-focused on issues like securing our borders, reducing the size of government, balancing the budget and ending Obamacare."
Bringing about meaningful reforms should not take decades. Ellzey will get the job that voters send him to Washington to do and then move back home to Texas. He will work for term limits and will commit to serving no more than five terms.
Jake Ellzey is a native Texan, graduate of the United States Naval Academy and flew combat missions in the Middle East as a Navy fighter pilot. He is a commercial airline pilot, owns a small business and still helps train military pilots. Ellzey currently serves on the Texas Veterans Commission.
