Former FTC Executive Joins ID Analytics as Chief Privacy Officer
Joel Winston Brings More Than Three Decades of Regulatory Experience and Consumer Protection to Company
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ID Analytics, a leader in consumer risk management, today announced former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) senior executive Joel Winston has joined the Company as its chief privacy officer and vice president of government affairs. Winston brings more than three decades of experience in all aspects of consumer protection law and public policy to the Company, as well as expertise in the fields of privacy, identity theft, data security and credit reporting. He will be responsible for monitoring legislation and laws that affect ID Analytics' solutions and its customers, overseeing regulatory compliance initiatives and collaborating with government agencies.
Prior to joining ID Analytics, Winston held a variety of roles within the FTC. From 2000 through 2009, he led the FTC's privacy program, first as associate director of the Division of Financial Practices and then as associate director of the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection, a new unit he helped create. In those positions, he helped to develop significant public policies, including several provisions of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, oversaw FTC enforcement and rulemaking efforts and served as a member of the President's Identity Theft Task Force.
From 2009 to 2011, Winston was the associate director of the FTC's Division of Financial Practices, where he was responsible for protecting purchasers of financial products and services through law enforcement, rulemaking, policy development and public outreach. He began his career at the FTC as an attorney, program advisor and assistant director of the Division of Advertising Practices, where he prosecuted groundbreaking cases against firms engaged in unfair or deceptive advertising practices. In 2008, Winston was awarded the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive for his commitment to excellence in public service.
