"As the media and entertainment sector transitions to an all-digital workflow, its challenges are further amplified due to the sheer size of HD content files and the need for large-scale content collaboration across multiple geo locations," said Dru Borden, Chief Strategy Officer, Nirvanix. "Cloud storage is rapidly gaining traction as a cost-effective component and business enabler in modern post-production workflows and its adoption is spreading to all industries dealing with the rise of unstructured data. I have experienced the pains of dealing with storage systems that reach their end of life (EOL) and the constant migration of data from one hardware platform to another—and it's clear that the shift to cloud is inevitable across all vertical markets."
"Dru brings significant expertise to Nirvanix in the areas of application architectures and content management and will collaborate with our Engineering organization and the Office of the CTO to spearhead our strategic business direction going forward," said Scott Genereux, President and CEO, Nirvanix. "By continuing to expand our management team with new executives with highly specialized industry expertise and strong customer relationships, we are positioned to deliver new cloud storage innovations to address an even broader range of customer requirements—while strengthening our ability to continue capturing material market share from principal competitors."
Borden has over 15 years of experience in application development and software architecture, highlighted by executive leadership positions at media & entertainment giants. Borden was Vice President, Application Architecture at CBS, where he was responsible for developing and leading the enterprise application practice, supporting core business systems which generated over $5 billion in annual revenue. Prior to CBS, Borden was Vice President and Chief Software Architect, Media Technologies, at NBCUniversal, leading the Platform Development Team consisting of 40+ architects and developers worldwide. This core engineering team developed applications that supported more than 100 NBCUniversal online properties with usage of more than 30 million video streams and over one billion social interactions and page views monthly. Borden is also responsible for the creation of NBCU's cable, satellite and telco user authentication standards and infrastructure that launched during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, which supported in excess of 100 multi-system operators.
Borden is also the co-creator of FLOW—Field Level Operations Watch—an open source Android app that leverages the cloud to generate maps and vital land statistics, providing countries with the ability to record data from tens of thousands of water points around the world in real-time. FLOW is currently in use in over 10 countries across four continents.
Borden gained application development experience at a variety of companies, including Andersen Consulting, Dell and Xuma.
