Former CFTC Chief Economist to Keynote Platts Oil Trading & Risk Management Forum
HOUSTON, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeffrey Harris, former chief economist of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will keynote Platts' inaugural Oil Trading and Risk Management Forum, September 13-14 in Houston, Texas.
Jeffrey Harris was chief economist at the CFTC from 2007 to early 2010 and was the chairman of an inter-agency task force that found no direct link between speculation and high energy prices of 2008. Harris returned to academia early this year, becoming a professor at the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business.
"Wild price swings and this year's overhaul of financial trading practices have enormous implications for companies with crude oil price exposure," said Platts Global Director of News John Kingston, who will moderate the conference's panel discussions. "On top of that, you have governments in many corners of the world looking to tighter regulation that could significantly slow trading volumes."
In addition to an overview and discussion of how the CFTC believes financial trades in commodities should be regulated, the Platts forum will also address such topics as the financial and non-financial trading trends in oil and oil products; energy hedging in a volatile environment; energy risk/compliance management integration; and, derivatives: tools to match a more complex energy trading/hedging environment. Companies participating in the Platts Oil Trading and Risk Management Forum include GDF Suez Energy North America, U.S. Airways, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, ConocoPhillips Co., Chevron, LDH Energy, and Occidental Petroleum, among others.
