Former Billionaire's Drapes Hit the Auction Block

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In April, Donald Trump purchased Patricia Kluge's Charlottesville-area winery in foreclosure and he's angling to buy her mansion too, but he didn't get the drapes.  The former would be-presidential candidate may be among the bidders, though, when The Potomack Company (www.potomackcompany.com), one of the Washington area's leading auction houses, offers an extensive and bespoke collection of Kluge's window coverings in a bank foreclosure sale on Sat., June 11.  

While the majority of fine and decorative items from the contents of Albemarle House were sold at auction in June 2010, featured items not included in that sale are now being offered by The Potomack Company.  Dozens of highly styled and ornamental drapes -- some as high as 11-1/2 feet tall -- that were custom designed and fabricated for the lavish Georgian-inspired country manor are among the available lots.  From the grand drawing room window treatments all the way down to the guest room shower draperies, the opulence and splendor of Albemarle House will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. 

"These David Easton-designed window coverings, which feature elegant fabrics, magnificent trims and hand stitching, are truly works of art in their own right, and we know interior designers and others who appreciate beautiful items of home decor will be anxious to add these special pieces to their collection," said Potomack Company Founder Elizabeth Wainstein.

Other Albemarle House contents being offered in The Potomack Company's June 11 Catalogue Sale include a matched set of four Armas Garbi 20-bore sidelock ejector guns with  royal engraving in silver reputedly presented to Patricia Kluge by the King of Spain as well as an  extensive collection of African tribal art, including masks and figures, and an assemblage of white painted fiberglass statuary depicting classical mythological and ancient figures, all with generous lifesize proportions.

The June sale will also bring to auction a letter written by George Washington in 1777 concerning confidential military maneuvers during the Revolutionary War just prior to the Battle of Valley Forge in addition to several signed American paintings of interest, including an Athenaeum portrait by Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828).
