Forest Park Medical Center, Dr. Alan Greenberg and Halt Medical Collaborate on Breakthrough Therapy for Patients with Uterine Fibroids
LIVERMORE, Calif., July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Forest Park Medical Center Frisco, part of the Dallas-based physician-owned hospital system dedicated to providing unsurpassed surgical care, along with Halt Medical, announced that it is the first center in Texas to offer patients the Acessa™ Procedure, which destroys uterine fibroids in an outpatient same day surgery.
"Our first patient was delighted with the speed of symptom resolution and return to normal activity," said Dr. Alan Greenberg, M.D., who performed the surgery. "Myomectomy and hysterectomy have long recovery times and global endometrial ablation may only address a fraction of the life altering symptoms caused by these tumors."
The Acessa Procedure is a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure that delivers radiofrequency energy to destroy the fibroids. After treatment, the fibroid is re-absorbed by the surrounding tissue. Acessa allows the surgeon to treat only the fibroids, while preserving normal function of the uterus. Patients typically go home the same day with little pain, and enjoy a rapid return to normal activities. More than 300 women have been successfully treated with Acessa.
"The Acessa System is the only device approved for the specific treatment of all uterine fibroids," said Jeffrey M. Cohen, Halt Medical CEO. "The Acessa Procedure represents a major breakthrough in providing gynecologists a procedure that addresses one of the biggest unmet needs in women's health. Millions of women suffer from uterine fibroids, costing the healthcare system more than $6 billion dollars annually."
Forest Park is a forerunner in cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures. The Frisco center, the second location in the Forest Park system, just recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. The 128,000-square-foot, full-service hospital contains 30 private inpatient rooms; 14 family suites; 10 intensive care beds; 12 state-of-the-art, fully integrated operating suites; full-service imaging; and an emergency room.
"Procedures like this continue to make Forest Park a leader in the healthcare industry," said Dr. Robert Wyatt, founding physician and managing partner, Forest Park Medical Center. "Putting our patients first and providing unsurpassed quality surgical care is where we excel."
