Ford City Mall Invites Community to Help 'Stuff the Bus' with Supplies for Local Schools

CHICAGO, Aug. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford City Mall is transforming the space next to Kids Foot Locker into a school bus and inviting shoppers to "Stuff the Bus" with much needed supplies for local kids in need. The "bus" will be in operation from Friday, August 25 through Sunday, September 10, 2017, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. daily.

"Every year Ford City Mall does a backpack giveaway, but this year we wanted to do more," says general manager Tracy Munno. "We thought it would be great to get the community involved in helping students get the tools they need to succeed in school."

Requested items include pens and pencils, crayons, markers, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, glue sticks, highlighters and erasers.

The two-week school readiness program will include family-friendly events and incentives to encourage community participation. When shoppers drop off donations of school supplies in the "bus," they can enter to win an iPad Mini or a $50 store gift card, and take advantage of back-to-school themed photo opportunities. They'll also receive a voucher worth 20% off at select Ford City stores and eateries.

"Back-to-school is always an exciting time at Ford City, and this year it's especially exciting with all the changes that have taken place at the mall," says Munno, referring to the first phase completion of the mall's extensive renovation, including new floors, paint, lighting, central corridor seating areas and more.
