For Adults Only: Holiday Deals For When the Kids Are Back at School
LONDON, August 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The summer holidays may be the most exciting months of the year for school children, but they can become a nightmare for holidaymakers. We take a look at some of the best destinations for holidays in September.
Planes filled with hyper kids, pools surrounded by screaming babies, and bars packed to the rafters with excitable teenagers - it's enough to make a more mature traveller quake in their boots. Fortunately, there's a fantastic range of cheap holidays to be snapped up when the youngsters are safely back behind their desks.
Egyptian Riviera
Cheap Sharm El Sheikh holidays are widely available in the autumn months, when the scorching temperatures are slightly milder and the beaches less crowded. Holidaymakers looking for complete peace and quiet can head north to the small coastal resort of Bedouin. 270 days of wind a year make it a Mecca for bohemian wind-surfers, whilst culture vultures can take a day trip to the spectacular Coloured Canyon and St Catherine's Monastery.
Lycian Turkey
Holidays in Turkey during September are best spent on the southern Turquoise coast, home to a multitude of relaxed fishing villages. Scuba diving is popular in this area and locals recommend that the best fish activity occurs after the first autumn rain, which normally falls between late September and early October. Hikers will be entranced by the 500km Lycian Way, which winds across stunning natural landscapes between Fethive and Antalya.
Italian delicacies
The warm sunshine and occasional showers bring Italian produce to life during the autumn. In Sardinia, the Autunno in Barbagia festival transforms 27 mountainous villages into open-air markets. Locals open their dining rooms to the public for delicious antipasti, and tourists can learn the tricks of the trade from local craftsmen. Meat-lovers should head to the Italian mainland for the Parma Ham Festival from 10-19 September, for a chance to taste samples from the world's best producers.
Deserted Spanish beaches
Sun-worshippers looking to top up a holiday tan in peace should take advantage of cheap autumn deals to Andalucía in Spain. The golden beaches are almost deserted at this time of year, but the temperature continues to hit the low 30's. Just north of Seville lies Sierra de Aracena national park. It's the perfect place to enjoy a picnic before exploring churches built by the Knights Templar.
