Foodies & Families Find Spring at the 2011 San Francisco Flower & Garden Show
Indoor Festival Features Food, Flowers and Family Fun for Five Days
SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Forget the weather outside because it’s full blown Spring indoors at the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show www.sfgardenshow.com. Festival attendees this week will stay warm and dry while they celebrate “Life In the California Garden” at the largest, world-class garden festival in the western United States with celebrity chef cooking demonstrations and the Sproutopia children’s area among popular features. A multi-generational activity that invites everyone to “Get Your Green On”, the festival is Wednesday, March 23 through Sunday, March 27 at the San Mateo Event Center. Single day tickets are $20, multi day passes $25, half day afternoon passes $15, and children under 16 are free.
While experienced garden aficionados will be more than excited by the scores of seminars, the festival is equally accessible to those seeking a unique family outing. Children have plenty of captivating spaces to explore among the twenty garden installations from top designers including a Kitchen Garden from the world famous staff of Filoli with live doves and blooming daffodils and a Modern Homestead complete with a chicken coop and jam making demonstrations. In the lively Sproutopia space, local elementary school students have created miniature gardens where kids of all ages can learn the basics of botany and the importance of connecting with the earth.
"The Flower & Garden Show has evolved into a celebration of the California lifestyle – encouraging the enjoyment of nature and ways to enhance our outdoor spaces," explained Show Producer Kay Estey. "Families have always been welcome and we see the numbers growing. Many youngsters are enamored of the colorful flowers and garden rock formations, while others are intrigued by the large scale art installations such as Bamboo DNA's bamboo towers and animals."
A Marketplace with 200 vendors is among the draws that makes this a popular annual activity for Bay Area residents. A wine tasting garden from the Livermore Valley Wine Country is new for 2011.
The San Francisco Flower & Garden Show is held at 1346 Saratoga Drive in San Mateo, midway between San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Doors open at 10am daily. For Early Bird Pricing, Directions and a Daily Calendar visit www.sfgardenshow.com or call 925-605-2923.
