Food Inspectors, Consumer Groups to Protest Poultry Proposal
Rally outside Agriculture Department headquarters planned for Monday
WASHINGTON, March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Federal food inspectors represented by the American Federation of Government Employees will join with consumer watchdogs and concerned citizens to protest proposed changes to the poultry inspections process that they fear could put the American public at risk.
A rally outside the Agriculture Department headquarters in Washington is planned for 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 2. Leaders of the participating groups will offer brief remarks and will be available for on-site interviews.
Participants hope to raise awareness of a regulation proposed by Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service that will partially privatize the poultry inspections process and drastically increase the number of birds federal inspectors must examine.
