Fifth Annual Champions4Children State Walk
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the past year alone, Children's Advocacy Centers in Illinois provided support and service to over 10,000 children. "We know that on your street, on your block, in your community children are abused and neglected every day. The statistics are staggering. But we also know that Children's Advocacy Centers are the everyday heroes to the children in the state of Illinois, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They answer the call that may start an investigation into abuse allegations. The well trained and collaborative team works on behalf of the children of our communities, not just at the outset of the outcry but as long as advocacy, mental health, and medical treatment are necessary," states Billie Larkin, Executive Director of the Children's Advocacy Centers of Illinois.
On May 12, 2012, the Champions4Children Walk gives community members across Illinois the chance to take real "steps" to support abused children. By lacing up in one of 15 locations statewide, walkers can step forward with Children's Advocacy Centers and the Children's Advocacy Centers of Illinois (CACI) to bring awareness to child abuse issues. The Champions4Children Walk, now in its fifth year, also shares the work of Children's Advocacy Centers to return hope and healing to abused children. The C4C Walk will help raise funds through pledges and sponsorships for the 38 Children's Advocacy Centers in Illinois, which serve 93 of the state's 102 counties.
"Having participated in the previous four walks, I have seen this event grow in numbers as well as increase awareness of the services that Child Advocacy Centers provide to abused children and the importance of these services to an individual child," explained Jim Weigand, Board President of CACI.
Every step taken in this walk is a step toward helping the abused children of Illinois.
