Follett Higher Education Awards College Students $20,000 in Prizes to Celebrate Textbook Rental Program
OAK BROOK, Ill., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Follett Higher Education Group today announced the winners of its "Make the Rent" sweepstakes celebrating the nationwide launch of its groundbreaking textbook rental program, Rent-A-Text. Georgia State University student Jana Wolf was awarded the $10,000 grand prize, and 100 University of California-Berkeley students will receive $100 college bookstore gift cards for an additional $10,000 in prizes.
Rent-A-Text offers students 50 percent or more off the nation's most popular textbooks. The program enables students to rent their textbooks in-store or online and offers multiple payment options.
Wolf, a second-year graduate student working on a degree in early childhood education, has already begun to take advantage of the cost savings offered by Rent-A-Text. She recently rented a $130 summer course textbook for just $30. After renting the textbook, Wolf decided to enter Follett's online sweepstakes.
"I don't know if I could have purchased the book without Rent-A-Text. I would definitely use Rent-A-Text again in a heartbeat," said Wolf who was born and raised in Atlanta.
Wolf plans to use her prize money to create a classroom library and purchase a printer for the second grade classroom where she will complete her first year as a fulltime teacher. She will also use the $10,000 to help pay for her housing expenses and course materials for her last year of graduate school.
"Attending college today requires a significant financial investment. Follett's mission is to help reduce higher education costs for students and their families by providing multiple textbook choices," said Thomas A. Christopher, President of Follett Higher Education Group. "With Follett, students have the option to rent textbooks, purchase used or new and even buy e-books using our CafeScribe social networking platform. The Rent-A-Text sweepstakes was a great way to further demonstrate Follett's commitment to the students we serve."
University of California-Berkeley Wins Too
The University of California-Berkeley students will earn their gift cards for achieving the highest average score of all participating colleges or universities in the Rent-A-Text Quiz Challenge. The online contest, conducted in conjunction with the sweepstakes, tested students' knowledge of rental themed questions.
