Folktellers Partner with RIF and Momentum Books to Promote Literacy through Moviemaking
"New Folktellers Guidebook Series Released through Storytelling for Literacy Program"
DETROIT, NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES, March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Folktellers LLC announced its exclusive partnership with Reading is Fundamental (RIF) and Momentum Books to release its exciting new middle-grade fantasy series through its innovative moviemaking classroom project, the Storytelling for Literacy Program.
The Storytelling for Literacy Program enables children to begin to understand the power of storytelling through reading and filmmaking. This all-inclusive, visual literacy program has been designed to engage students in the art of storytelling using multimedia. It may be integrated into any standard elementary or middle school curriculum with all program materials included in a Storytelling for Literacy Media Kit, provided free to educators.
Through the generous donations of corporate and private sponsors, the new Guidebook Series will be released in eight installments through Folktellers Storytelling for Literacy Program. Beginning in May of 2020. Book I: Phases of the Moon will be re-released exclusively in the educational markets, while Book II: Cave in the Rock, will be made available in September of 2020. The rest of the series will be released through 2022.
The ultimate goal is to promote visual literacy - the ability to read, write and create visual images using technology, while communicating and exchanging ideas in an educational setting.
Guidebook Series Creator Josef Bastian emphasized, "Stories and reading are powerful things and an exclusive release like this has never been done before. When kids are engaged and excited about storytelling through reading and filmmaking, it opens up a whole world of possibilities for them. We want children to feel empowered and engaged through the joy of reading great stories and sharing them by making their own movie trailers. The fact that we can do this at no cost to the kids or parents is even more wonderful. This program demonstrates the power of storytelling in action."
From Hollywood, Folktellers Partner, Ahmet Zappa noted, "Ultimately, we're opening up an entirely new storytelling platform specifically designed to promote literacy. I've said from the very beginning that great storytelling is foundational to any new entertainment franchise. This is a very exciting partnership."
From Detroit, Folktellers Partner Stephen Sadler added, "Folktellers mission is built upon the art of storytelling. Our vision, "stories have power and are meant to be shared", fits perfectly with RIF's literacy mission and values. We're excited and confident this program will make a positive impact on the lives of those involved."
Educators and schools will be able to order kits beginning in May 2020 from the Folktellers website: https://folktellers.com/literacy
RIF is offering a sneak peek of the entire Guidebook Series at the Folktellers Universe Collection on their Literacy Central website at:
