FocusDriven to Benefit From Associa Safe Kids Campaign
"Like" Facebook page to raise money to keep communities and families safe
RIVER FOREST, Ill., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Support safe communities and families and pledge to drive cell phone-free while raising money for FocusDriven – Advocates for Cell-Free Driving.
Distracted driving causes about 1.6 million crashes a year. Associa, the leader in community association management, wants to help reduce that number. In concurrence with its Associa Safe Kids (ASK) campaign, Associa is asking citizens who value safety to digitally pledge to drive cell-free. Facebook users can find Associa at www.facebook.com/associa and "like" the page to pledge they will not use their cell phones while driving, whether handheld or hands-free. From today until Nov. 17, Associa will donate $1 to FocusDriven for every "like" the page receives. Facebook users can post their own safety tips to Associa's page.
"We're honored Associa has chosen FocusDriven as the charity to support with its efforts. Associa's contributions will provide us with the opportunity to serve even more families and communities across the nation and protect others from these 100-percent preventable cell phone-related driving crashes," said Jennifer Smith, president and founding board member of FocusDriven.
Research shows hands-free phone calls do not eliminate cognitive distraction, and drivers are less likely to see objects on the road, such as traffic signs or pedestrians. Furthermore, data shows about one-quarter of motor vehicle crashes occur a mile or less from home. Support ASK and FocusDriven in keeping communities and families safe.
FocusDriven – Advocates for Cell-Free Driving (focusdriven.org) is a nonprofit advocacy organization for victims of motor vehicle crashes involving drivers using cell phones. FocusDriven supports victims of cell phone distracted driving and families of victims. Its goal is to increase public awareness on the dangers of cell phone distracted driving by putting a human face on the disastrous impact of the behavior in order to promote corresponding public policies, programs and personal responsibility.
