Focus Washington Talks With Pollster Ron Faucheux About Importance of Romney's Marginal Victory in Iowa
President of Claurs Research Group Reflects on Republican Primary Campaign; Notes Santorum as Serious Contender
WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Ron Faucheux sits down with Focus Washington to discuss the results of the Iowa Republican caucus and Faucheux's insights to the overall presidential election. President of the Washington D.C. based Clarus Research Group, Faucheux reports daily on the current status of the republican candidates and Obama's status in the elections.
With only an eight vote difference, Mitt Romney came out of Iowa with a significant win, but the results were important for Rick Santorum as well, who has now proven he is a serious contender for the Republican nomination. Faucheux states that Romney ultimately "got out of Iowa what he needed and that was a win," but adds that despite Romney's win, Santorum has proven that he has "some potential as a candidate."
Faucheux also discusses the candidates' instability in the polls in relation to the new voter attitude. "Those of us who are interested in everything that happens in politics are expecting to see certain patterns that voters are just not thinking with…a lot of voters went shopping… [and] when they had to make their final decisions they made them in support of Romney, in new face, Santorum, and quite a few of them stuck with Ron Paul."
The interview wraps up with a discussion of Obama's current role in the elections and his potential in the final campaign process. According to the polls, Obama remains at a 47 or 48 percent approval rating. "[Obama] is where he's been for at least a year: strong enough to win reelection, weak enough to lose it." The interview concludes with Faucheux stating that the final republican candidate will determine Obama's strengths and weaknesses during his own campaign and concludes that the 2012 presidential race "is a race that has yet to be finished."
