FMFCU Celebrates 45th Birthday and Veterans of Influence Award to its President and CEO
BROOMALL, Pa., March 30, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU) celebrates its 45th birthday today and the awarding of a Veterans of Influence Award to President and CEO John D. Unangst.
FMFCU began in 1970 as a credit union serving one partner organization — The Franklin Mint (collectables) Company. Today, the Credit Union has 2,000 partner groups, 80,000 members, and $900 million in assets. FMFCU ranks ninth in asset size in Pennsylvania among credit unions.
Since 1976, Unangst has served as president and CEO, organizing and leading a planned program of growth and diversification. Prior to that, the Penn State University graduate was an officer in the U.S. Army, earning a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Air Medal for Valor, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
On March 19 at the Union League of Philadelphia, Unangst received a Veterans of Influence Award from the Philadelphia Business Journal in honor of his decorated military service and leadership of FMFCU for nearly four decades.
"At every turn whatever the year, FMFCU maintained a singular focus across the organization," explained Unangst. "Improve the lives of members through financial education, products, retail delivery channels, and exceptional member service at every touch point."
In 45 years, FMFCU has captured many local and national awards, including Federal Credit Union of the Year by National Association of Federal Credit Unions. The Credit Union has been applauded for its commitment to financial literacy through seven high school branches, building a financial literacy center at its corporate office, and sponsorship of Delco Hi-Q, the oldest continuous academic quiz competition in the nation.
"When FMFCU started, there were 26,000 credit unions in the United States," noted Unangst. "Currently, there are under 7,000. FMFCU is proud to be one of them and growing with each passing year."
