FMCSA Extends 49 CFR 395 AOBRD Options for Carriers
BRUSH, Colo., Dec. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As professional commercial drivers know, the FMCSA Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate 49 CFR 395 rollout has met with mixed results. One of the best options for drivers has been to use an Automated On-Board Recording Device (AOBRD) like the one provided by GeoSpace Labs, which provides the automation and sophistication of todays modern technology, without the restrictions and reporting requirements of the full blown ELD.
Originally drivers must have installed an AOBRD system into their cab prior to December 18, 2017, however the FMCSA has relaxed that requirement, according to eldfacts.com, and the FMCSA's own website.
Now, a driver in a fleet that deployed AOBRD's prior to the December 2017 deadline can use an AOBRD.
Further, drivers currently using an AOBRD can switch providers.
This is a huge win for drivers, as prior to this rule change they were stuck with their current AOBRD, and in many cases some high-profile providers misled drivers concerning the AOBRD functionality.
Since the economic outlook for 2019 is very positive, many drivers are choosing to switch to a low cost no-monthly-fee AOBRD to position themselves for a lucrative 2019 year.
An option being selected is the Owner Operator Hours of Service System. At only $239 with no additional fees, and able to run in full AOBRD mode and provide every editing option allowed by the AOBRD regulations, this is a great tool for drivers who know how to keep a logbook and do not need a computer making log entries that they cannot correct.
Further, the system is provided by GeoSpace Labs, which has deep roots into the American trucking community, supports Trucker Nation including substantial donations to them, and is based in trucking friendly agricultural states, not on the coast or in big cities somewhere, or even more worrisome in a different country all together.
GeoSpace provides professional Hours of Service Systems covering AOBRD, ELD, and DVIR regulations, and includes deep and unique handling of different exemptions offered by the FMCSA, including 16 Hour Short-Haul Exception 395.1(o), Agriculture Exemption 395.1(k), 100 Air Mile Short-Haul Exemption 395.1(e)(1), and Vehicles used in oil and gas field operations 395.1(d)(2).
