WASHINGTON, Jan. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Floyd Abrams, renowned First Amendment attorney, is the confirmed keynote speaker at the inauguration gala of Andrea Snyder Edney, 111th president of the National Press Club, on Sat Feb. 10.
Abrams is known for his successful Supreme Court defense of The New York Times from the Nixon administration's attempt to block the printing of "The Pentagon Papers." He also represented the Brooklyn Museum of Art when then-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani tried to deny city support due to an exhibition he called "sacrilegious."
Edney, a breaking news editor at Bloomberg, first joined the news organization as a reporter in Prague in 1997 and became an NPC member in 2009. She previously served on the National Press Club's Board of Governors as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President – and was also the longtime chair of the Scholarship Committee.
The Inaugural celebration will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m., and an after-party featuring D.C. premiere big band, Swing Machine. Guests will dance the night away to this 19-person band comprised of a Grammy-nominated vocalist and former members of the Air Force Airmen of Note, Army Blues, Navy Commodores, and Glenn Miller Orchestra.
