Flower Mound Eighth Grader Named Student Ambassador of the Year
Elizabeth Lester Awarded People to People Ambassador Programs Educational Travel Experience
SPOKANE, Wash., Feb. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- People to People Ambassador Programs, the leader in global educational travel experiences, has awarded Elizabeth Lester, an eighth grader from Forestwood Middle School, the 2010 Student Ambassador of the Year Award. As a People to People Student Ambassador Programs alumna, Elizabeth was selected based on a program leader's recommendation and review of her leadership ability and community service, along with a 1,000-word essay describing how the program has changed her life. For her achievement, Elizabeth has been awarded full tuition and airfare toward the 2011 travel experience of her choice.
Elizabeth previously traveled as a Student Ambassador on 2010's European Discovery program, where for her, the most memorable and life-changing event was a tour of a former concentration camp. During this visit, Elizabeth learned that history is valuable in helping prevent recurrences of past tragedies. In her essay, she wrote, "I can now appreciate history and see the importance of learning about the actions of past leaders. We can use their experiences to influence our decisions in today's society to make the right choice for all people."
People to People Ambassador Programs travel to more than 49 countries on all seven continents and program participants come from over 100 nations. The organization trains more than 5,000 teachers each year who lead students on educational travel experiences, and 84 percent of students who have traveled on a People to People program report being accepted into their college of choice.
