As part of a yearlong partnership with Vested Interest in K-9s, PetArmor® is providing funding for bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement K-9s in cities across the country. In Jupiter, the donation is benefiting all four K-9 teams at the Police Department, as listed below:
- K-9 Police Officer First Class Vincent Curcio and his K-9 partner "Jimi"
- K-9 Police Officer First Class Scott Kimbark and his K-9 partner "Toby"
- K-9 Officer Chad Norman and his K-9 partner "Sherlock"
- K-9 Officer Michael Nicholson and his K-9 partner "Ike"
"This donation from PetArmor® has allowed for all K-9s in the department to have bullet and stab protective vests," said Jupiter Police Department Sergeant Scott Pascarella. "Our K-9 officers are risking their lives every day to protect and serve, and we're thrilled to be able to protect them, too."
PetArmor® has also funded protective vests for all five K-9 officers at the Riviera Beach Police Department, as listed below:
- K-9 Police Officer Edward Foster with his K-9 partner "Amal"
- K-9 Police Officer Joseph Hoffman with his K-9 partner "Dietz"
- K-9 Police Officer Melvin Menard with his K-9 partner "Ajax"
- K-9 Police Officer Cedric Edwards with his K-9 partner "Herkules"
- K-9 Police Officer Charles Bahruth with his K-9 partner "Dasty"
"Safety of the department's K-9 officers is essential," said Riviera Beach Chief of Police Clarence Williams, III. "We are grateful to PetArmor for their donation. The vests will assist us in protecting our K-9s as they give their all to serve and protect."
More often than not, law enforcement agencies do not have the budgets to provide vests for K-9 officers — which cost around $1,000 each — leaving police dogs unprotected while helping to fight crime. Vested Interest in K-9s is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing bullet and stab protective vests to police organizations nationwide. Since 2009, the non-profit organization has provided 437 vests.
"Police K-9 units provide an invaluable service to their community and deserve the same kind of protection as their human counterparts," said Sandy Marcal, founder of Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. "Thanks to PetArmor®, many more police dogs will be protected from harm while they protect their neighborhoods and towns."
The K-9 vests are custom sized to provide maximum comfort and mobility. The K-9 vests provide maximum coverage to the vital organs in addition to a rear extension panel to accommodate dogs with longer torsos.
"As a leader in pet protection, PetArmor® is excited to partner with Vested Interest in K-9s and protect the dogs that put their lives on the line to protect us," said Bob Scharf of Perrigo Animal Health. "This partnership is a continuation of PetArmor's® ongoing animal welfare and charity efforts."
