ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Realtor, the Business Magazine of Florida Real Estate and monthly trade publication of Florida Realtors®, recently won nine awards in the 2015 Florida Magazine Association's (FMA) competition.
Under writing excellence, Florida Realtor won two Charlie Awards, the competition's top honor or gold standard, for Best Service Feature (Track. Connect. Respond. September 2014) in its Trade/Technical category and also for Best Feature (Emerging Markets: What's Driving International Buyers to Florida? April 2014). It also won a Silver Award or second place for Best Service Feature (6 "Aha" Real Estate Video Ideas, Nov/Dec 2014).
The magazine also received a Silver Award for Best Overall Writing (July 2014, March 2015 and April 2015) and a Silver Award for Best Department (Manage It) in its Trade/Technical category. Florida Realtor received a Bronze Award or third place for Best Department (Tech & You).
Judges also recognized the magazine for design excellence. Florida Realtor won a Silver Award for Best Overall Design in its Trade/Technical category (May 2014, March 2015 and April 2015), a Silver Award for Best Single, Original Photo (Drumming Up Passion, May 2014) and a Bronze Award for Best Cover (World of Opportunity, April 2015).

The FMA presented its inaugural Doug Damerst Scholarship in honor of the life and career of Doug Damerst, Florida Realtor magazine's former editor-in-chief and vice president of FMA's Board of Directors, who died Sept. 9, 2014. Brittany Valencic, a journalism major at the University of Florida, wrote the winning essay for the $1,000 scholarship. A sophomore at UF, she has interned at FLA-TV in Tampa and the Gainesville Sun newspaper, and written for several publications in the Gainesville area.
The Florida Magazine Association represents the state's publishing industry with more than 200 association, trade/technical and consumer magazines. More than 600 entries were submitted for this year's Charlie Awards contest from publications produced in Florida. Awards were presented during FMA's 2015 Publishing Conference & Expo, Aug. 6-7, at Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate in Osceola County, Fla.
