Florida Launches Statewide Distance Learning Course and Degree Program Solution
WEST CHESTER, Pa., May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) has launched an enhanced Distance Learning Course and Degree Program Catalog, developed by AcademyOne, to support the state's growing population of distance learners. The catalog is available from FLVC's student portal at courses.flvc.org/Courses.
As student enrollment in online learning continues to grow, this solution provides Florida's public colleges and universities with improved tools to meet the needs of online students and aid them on their path to degree completion. Students looking to earn a degree online, or to simply take an online course, are able to search courses offered by Florida's 28 public colleges and 12 public universities. FLVC's Distance Learning Course and Degree Program Catalog will help students identify and learn about institutions offering online programs and complete the requirements of their chosen degree by allowing them to search for the appropriate courses, and ultimately provide them with a pathway to register for courses. The new catalog is available on FLVC's website and provides a seamless and intuitive experience for students. By providing the flexibility to complete courses from anywhere and broadening course options to offer the convenience of time and distance, Florida is realizing its goal of promoting student access and success.
Benefits of the enhanced Distance Learning Course and Degree Program Catalog extend beyond just students. There is also a dashboard that allows college and university administrators to manage program offerings and validate course offerings, as well as generate reports to aid in making timely decisions in regard to both. Courses, programs and institutional profile information are easily added to the database from an administrative panel. This data can be effortlessly migrated to and from other database systems, such as the Southern Regional Education Board's (SREB) Electronic Campus.
"This enhancement to the FLVC portal takes us one step closer to realizing our mission of making possible cross-institutional collaboration and increasing access to online teaching, learning and research tools that help all students complete their educational goals and succeed in the workplace," said Dr. Robin Donaldson, FLVC Project Manager. "It will be exciting as we move forward to provide even more functionality in the next phase of development," she added.
