MARCO ISLAND, Fla., June 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The outcome of this lawsuit could impact every county in Florida and schools across our Republic. These flawed materials are purchased by hundreds of US school districts.
Florida Citizens Alliance decided, "Enough is enough!" Working with parents, we are asking for an emergency injunction to stop this flawed textbook adoption process and the purchase of these objectionable textbooks. The lawsuit was filed, May 31st, 2017 in The Circuit Court for the 20th Judicial Circuit for Collier County.
Collier County School Board violated Florida Sunshine Law and ignored four Florida statutes, all at the expense of our 46,000 students. These students deserve the "highest quality instructional materials of professionalism and historical accuracy". (Florida Statute 1003.42)
We believe the Collier County School Board violated Chapter 128, Florida's Sunshine Law, and four other Florida Statutes; FS1003.42, FS1006.28, FS1006.31(2), and FS1006.283. These statutes require the factual teaching of our founding principles and the teaching of materials that are accurate, balanced and non-inflammatory.
As parents, grandparents and taxpayers, we demand the Collier School Board restart the adoption process in the Sunshine and follow Florida Statutes.
To approve any of these materials, the Collier School Board not only violates the School Boards' constitutional responsibility but is fiducially a major waste of taxpayer money.
THIS IS NOT A PARTISAN ISSUE. IT IS ABOUT OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE, following FLORIDA LAWS and adopting FACTUAL, UNBIASED TEXTBOOKS that are not used to indoctrinate our children.
This is a three year adoption process and these text books will be used for 8-10 years. There is no rush to buy flawed materials.
Reluctantly, after numerous attempts to get the Collier School Board to honor Florida Statutes, we concluded that our only course of action is to file this lawsuit. This injustice to each and every student, parent and community member in Collier County, must stop!
