Florida Career College Announces New Nursing Program at Boynton Beach Campus
Inaugural class session to begin mid-August
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the shortage of registered nurses is projected to reach 20 percent by 2015. To help meet the needs of this growing field, Florida Career College (FCC) will launch a new nursing program, with the inaugural class to begin mid-August.
FCC will offer a two-year, four-semester Associate's Degree program at the Boynton Beach campus, located at 1743 North Congress Avenue. The Level 1 program class is limited to 40 students who meet the admissions requirements, including academic pre-requisites. Upon graduation from the program, students will be qualified to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to receive the Registered Nurse (RN) designation.
"We are very excited to begin the new nursing program at our campus," said FCC Boynton Beach Executive Director Michael Schwam. "It's a great addition to our academic roster and we expect to draw candidates from as far south as Miami and as far north as Port Saint Lucie."
The Florida Center for Nursing estimates that the current state shortage of 11,000 RNs in the state could increase to 52,000 by 2020. South Florida is the area in the state with the most critical need, as 16 percent of the region's nursing positions currently are unfilled. Additionally, the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation lists that three of the 15 occupations slated for the most job growth over the next seven years are in nursing-related fields.
FCC Boynton Beach also plans to add a Level II transitional program in January 2011 for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who want to become RNs. This program runs a full year and will accommodate 30 students.
Boynton Beach is Florida Career College's ninth and newest campus. Spanning 35,000 square feet in the Catalina Shoppes at 1743 North Congress Avenue, the campus welcomed its first class of students on March 29, 2010.
FCC Boynton Beach also offers Allied Health programs in Medical Coding and Billing Specialist, Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant Technician and an Associate's Degree in Medical Office Administrator. The Boynton location also offers a diploma program in Cosmetology.
