NEW YORK, July 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Florence L. Denmark-Wesner, Ph.D., is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. A respected voice in the field of psychology, Dr. Denmark-Wesner has dedicated her career to educating others. While attending the University of Pennsylvania in the 1950s, she completed a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy. From there, Dr. Denmark-Wesner began her professional association with The City University of New York, going on to serve as a lecturer in psychology, instructor, professor, affiliate of the Hunter College and the Graduate School Doctoral Faculty of Psychology and professor of psychology. In 1988, she joined the faculty at Pace University as a Robert Scott Pace Distinguished Professor of Psychology and chair of the psychology department. She has served on the Psychology Advisory Committee with The New York Academy of Sciences for more than four decades.
Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Denmark-Wesner has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, as well as chapters to books, pertaining to her areas of expertise. She is credited as an editor of "Who Discriminates against Women?" and "Psychology: The Leading Edge into the Unknown," and as a co-editor of "Engendering Psychology," "Females and Autonomy: A Life-Span Perspective," "Violence and the Prevention of Violence" and "Women: Dependent or Independent Variable?" Most recently, Dr. Denmark-Wesner served as a co-editor alongside Dr. Michele Paludi on three editions of a handbook entitled "Psychology of Women," which focuses on women's issues and theories. Their book, "Women and Leadership," was recently released. Noted for her talent as an organizer and lecturer, Dr. Denmark-Wesner was recently selected to speak at the International Council of Psychologists, which was held in New York in July 2017.
In recognition of her contributions to the academic community, Dr. Denmark-Wesner was named a Mellon Scholar by St. Olaf College in 1977. She has received grants from the Division of Human Relations at the University of Pennsylvania, the U.S. Department of Education, the Research Foundation for the State of New York, the New York Community Trust, the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Muskowini Fund and Pace University. She has received six honorary degrees and was named a Distinguished Humanitarian in 2017. Dr. Denmark-Wesner has been featured in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. She was previously selected to receive a Distinguished Contributions to International Psychology Award from the American Psychological Association in 1999.
