FlixFling Teams up with Roku to Make Entertainment Even More Accessible
FlixFling Deal Includes Roku Box for New Subscribers
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- FlixFling, the new digital movie service that allows users to watch their favorite movies and shows, and "fling," or stream them from their media device of choice, has inked a deal with Roku to make entertainment available in the home on TVs.
A first, via the FlixFling service , users can stream the movies on several different mobile devices including the iPhone as well as Android based smart phones. But if users decide to watch it on an iPad or Internet-ready TV, FlixFling flings it over to that device and it's accessible through the My Flix section. The content is instantly available no matter where users originally watched the movie. FlixFling saves all the user's content so synching becomes an unnecessary step.
Roku, the set-top box that instantly streams tons of entertainment on your TV wirelessly, now includes the FlixFling service, once users select their content, it remains in the user's account to access from any medium – television, smart phone, iPad, even Facebook.
"FlixFling's partnership with Roku is a game changer for the entertainment industry," said Tom Ashley, CEO of FlixFling. "With Roku, we're transforming primetime into anytime, anywhere."
"Roku offers the most flexible platform for content owners and aggregators to deliver a true lean back experience seamlessly on the TV and we're very excited to see FlixFling delivering a Roku channel today," said Jim Funk, vice president of business development. "With Roku and FlixFling, customers will have an easy yet powerful way to watch the entertainment they care about the most, in high definition, on the big screen."
Customers can use Roku to access many of their Internet accounts – audio included – so they can watch a FlixFling movie and then take a break and pop on Pandora. And since FlixFling is available on Facebook, users have yet another place to stream their entertainment.
To rent or buy on FlixFling, users must either have a subscription, which allows unlimited rentals, or pay as you go. As part of an upcoming special promotion , new subscribers to FlixFling will receive a Roku box with a new, low price FlixFling subscription plan. Movies and shows for rent start as low as $1.99-$3.99 and to own a title from $6.99-$9.99. Rentals are available for 72 hours from the time of rental.
FlixFling will be at Winter CES, showcasing their platform and previewing digital distribution advancements, to manufacturers and press by appointment.
