Flextronics' Dr. Dongkai Shangguan Appointed to Sustainable Technology Advisory Board
Dr. Shangguan to present May 4th at SEM's Electronics' Day in Nuremberg
SINGAPORE, May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In line with its focus on sustainable technology development, Flextronics (NASDAQ: FLEX) today announced that Dr. Dongkai Shangguan, Flextronics' Vice President of Advanced Technology and Engineering Leadership, has been appointed to serve on Sustainable Electronics Manufacturing's (SEM) Working Group Board. SEM is an industry-wide group of thought leaders from all segments of the electronics industry with the mission to promote a sustainable global electronics environment. As part of his advisory role, Dr. Shangguan will support the creation of SEM's global sustainability roadmap to 2015 and beyond. Dr. Shangguan will actively support SEM's mission through various conference engagements, including SEM's May 4, 2011 "Electronics Day" event in Nuremberg, Germany. At this event, Dr. Shangguan's presentation will highlight how technology and innovation can holistically enable and advance sustainable electronics manufacturing.

Dr. Shangguan's list of achievements and honors reflects his strong industry reputation as a distinguished technologist and expert in advanced electronics across multiple industries. He is an IEEE Fellow, serves on IPC's Board of Directors and IEEE CPMT's Board of Governors, where he also serves as a Distinguished Lecturer. Dr. Shangguan is also a member of the founding Board of Directors for SEMA, a founding coordinator of the EMS Forum on Lead-Free PCB Assembly, and has chaired the iNEMI Roadmap for Board Assembly. He has been honored with some of the industry's most prestigious awards, including IPC's President's Award, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' (SME) Total Excellence in Electronics Manufacturing Award, and Soldertec Lead-Free Soldering Award. Prior to joining Flextronics, Dr. Shangguan worked for Ford Motor Co. and Visteon Corporation in various technical and management functions. Dr. Shangguan received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, an MBA from San Jose State University and a Ph.D. in Materials from the University of Oxford, U.K. He has held post-doctoral teaching and research positions at the University of Cambridge and The University of Alabama and has served as guest professor at several universities. Dr. Shangguan has published two books and over 200 scientific papers and technical articles, and has given numerous presentations, to share knowledge and expertise with the industry.
The SEM Working Group is an industry-wide initiative, involving key international publications, events and associations to collaborate on and support a radical change in the paradigms of electronics manufacturing.
