A recent CNN report discussed the news that a number of schools have banned flavored milk in an effort to lower obesity rates in children. Dr. Rippe notes that this strategy, though gaining momentum, is potentially damaging to children's long-term health, citing a 35 percent decrease in milk consumption at those schools -- and a corresponding 35 percent reduction in consumption of calcium and vitamin D.
