ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Flagship Food Group, maker of the 505 Southwestern line of salsas, sauces and frozen food handheld snacks joined employees, local officials, community leaders and representatives from Walmart to celebrate the creation of approximately 200 jobs at Flagship's Grand Opening of its new distribution facility in Albuquerque. Flagship's 200 new jobs are a direct result of Walmart's commitment to buy an additional $250 billion in products supporting American jobs by 2023, which has resulted in increased demand for Flagship's American-made and American-grown food products.
"Walmart's commitment to buy $250 billion in products supporting American jobs is having a tangible impact on communities across America, including Albuquerque," said Rob Holland, CEO, Flagship Food Group. "In a world where there is incredible competition for foreign-grown and foreign-made food products, we're working with Walmart to promote products made and grown right here in New Mexico. Thanks to Walmart, we've gone from about 20 employees in New Mexico in 2013 to almost 400 today."
Based on data from Boston Consulting Group, it's estimated that 1 million new U.S. jobs will be created through Walmart's initiative, including direct manufacturing job growth of approximately 250,000, and indirect job growth of approximately 750,000 in the support and service sectors.
"Our customers have told us that second to price, where products are made influences their purchase decisions," said Cindi Marsiglio, vice president, U.S. manufacturing, Walmart. "We are focused on buying great quality products that create jobs in communities across the U.S. It makes sense for our customers, our communities and our company."
Flagship's popular 505 Southwestern® brand ("505" signifies Albuquerque's area code) is produced in New Mexico and certified as a "New Mexico True" product. Through its work with Walmart and innovative approach to new products, Flagship has developed more than 30 new items for Walmart over the last 2 years, leading to accelerated growth and the ability to expand its operations locally.
"On the heels of 48 consecutive months of job growth, this is great news," said Richard J. Berry, Mayor of Albuquerque. "It's because of companies like Flagship Food Group that believe in Albuquerque that our city and our economy continue to rise."
