Flag Procession an Annual Tradition at the iaedp Foundation's Internationally Renowned Symposium
PEKIN, Ill., March 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- When the 2015 iaedp Symposium officially opens on March 19 in Phoenix, it will begin with the traditional Presentation of the Colors by the Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard followed by the iaedp International Flag Procession, honoring the professionals who come together each year to advance learning, share groundbreaking information and engage with the world's most renowned and committed eating disorders professionals.
"The iaedp International Flag Procession is a grand ceremony steeped in the celebration of our national and international chapters," said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director of The iaedp Foundation. "This year we will spotlight not only the states in the U.S where we have iaedp chapters, but also six countries that include Australia, Canada, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Italy and Mexico."
In fact, this year's Symposium features seven key sessions in Spanish only that address the latest in eating disorder treatment, causes and science. The iaedp 2015 Symposium will take place over a four-day period, March 18 – 22 and will feature over 40 presentations and workshops in all.
Pre-symposium activity kicks off on Wednesday, March 18 with the return of the popular pre-certification courses. On Thursday, 18 different sessions will take place, including the conclusion of the pre-certification courses and the grand opening reception. Other Thursday highlights include sessions on brain functionality in eating disorders, underlying issues for clinicians and innovative treatment strategies for challenging cases.
Keynote speaker Claudia Black, PhD, will kick off Friday's sessions with her presentation, "The Family as the Client." Other notable topics among the 12 sessions that day include ethical issues in eating disorder treatment and binge eating disorder. Keynote speaker, Dan Tomasulo, PhD, will be among 11 sessions Saturday when he launches day 2 with his presentation, "Wrong to Strong: What Positive Psychology Can Offer Clinical Professionals."
The symposium closes on Sunday, March 22 at 9 a.m. with a first-time keynote panel address, "Elusive Answers: Difficult Cases that Pose Clinical and Ethical Challenges," answering the question of "what to do when," based on actual case studies from the multidisciplinary viewpoints of experienced professionals. Presenters include: Bryan Gusdal, MA Director (Panel Moderator), Jennifer Gaudiani MD, CEDS, Edward Tyson MD, CEDS, Amy Boyers PhD, CEDS and Karen Beerbower MS, RD, LD, CEDRD.
