Fixed Operators Can Profit Despite A Challenging Climate in Africa and the Middle East, Pyramid Finds
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Oct. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While total fixed services revenue in Africa and the Middle East will experience a progressive decline in most telecom markets in AME during the next five years, fixed broadband will be the one bright spot in the fixed revenue landscape, according to Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com).
Despite a Challenging Climate, Fixed Operators Can Profit from Business Broadband and FTTx examines the fixed sector trends in AME that are expected during the next five years, including the effects that activity on the mobile side will have on the sector. This examination includes highlights from key markets in the region. Next Pyramid Research outlines the areas of strength on the fixed side, including how FTTx will make a significant impact in terms of revenue. Then Pyramid identifies the operators best positioned to take advantage of the opportunities that exist in fixed services during the forecast period. Finally Pyramid presents three case studies from the UAE, Jordan and South Africa that provide examples of fixed incumbents that have devised ways to remain relevant in the shifting fixed communications landscape in AME.

Overall fixed service revenue across AME will grow from US$26.2 billion in 2011 to reach $27.2 billion by 2016, a CAGR of 1 percent. "However, the fixed share of total service revenue is predicted to fall by 2 percentage points during that same time period," says Ronda Zelezny-Green, Analyst at Pyramid Research. The projected increase in fixed service revenue will be attributed to developments in the fixed broadband sector, such as the growth of the presence of fiber to the x (FTTx), and especially business broadband subscribers. "The stagnation of fixed revenues is an almost inevitable trend given the shape of telecommunications in AME, but there are still opportunities to maintain and even grow fixed market share," she notes.
