Fix the Debt Welcomes Members of Congress Home

State activists host 30 events with Members of the House and the Senate

WASHINGTON, March 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Over the next two weeks, the 23 state chapters of the Campaign to Fix the Debt—a national, nonpartisan coalition of government, policy and business leaders and more than 350,000 concerned citizens dedicated to urging Congress to reach a bipartisan agreement to solve our national debt problems—are hosting events with more than 30 members of the House and Senate to raise awareness of the negative impacts of the national debt on local small businesses.

Events hosted by Fix the Debt state chapters include the involvement of local business leaders, academics, students and community leaders. They range from small business tours to roundtable discussions. Highlights include:

• Arizona—Senator Jeff Flake (R) will participate in a community Town Hall hosted by small business members of Fix the Debt—Arizona.
• Indiana— Congresswoman Susan Brooks (R) will tour Indianapolis-based Monarch Beverage and discuss the impact of the debt on small businesses.
• Iowa—Congressman Tom Latham (R) will tour Urbandale small business, ColorFX, and discuss the impact of the debt on small businesses.
• Louisiana—Congressman Bill Cassidy (R) will participate in a roundtable discussion over breakfast in Baton Rouge, hosted by Michel Olivier, CEO of the Committee of 100 for Economic Development.
• Michigan—Congressman John D. Dingell (D) will participate in a roundtable discussion with the millennial arm of the campaign, The Can Kicks Back, which is launching at University of Michigan—Ann Arbor.
• Tennessee—Congressman Jim Cooper (D) participated in a Fix the Debt presentation at the Nashville Downtown Rotary Club.

Through grassroots organizing, earned media activities and high-profile outreach by its 23 state chapters, the Campaign to Fix the Debt is urging lawmakers to set aside political differences in order to formulate practical solutions to our nation's debt problems.
