After many failed DIY painting attempts by her husband, Crossley entrusted Five Star Painting to paint her front entry foyer, office, dining room, kitchen walls and cabinets, great living room, staircase, large upstairs loft, laundry room, doors and the hallways into the kid's including all of the trims and ceilings in each space.

With the goal of light, airy and comforting spaces, color choice was very important to the mother of four children: a 5-year-old, 3-year-old twins and a 9-month-old baby.

"To inject softness into the south-facing room, this warm white has a red undertone and encourages the room to feel cozy," added Crossley.

She noted the logistics of raising four young and active children also played a part in some paint selections.

"I ultimately went with a semi-gloss," explained Crossley. "I wanted a more matte look, but the staircase gets a lot of hand traffic from my four littles, so having a paint that's highly washable and durable pushed us to that choice."

The Five Star Painting team sanded, primed and then painted the staircase hand railings, since they were originally stained wood. These techniques caused them to turn out less glossy, which excited Crossley.
