LONDON, July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
1. 140,000 people die each year in situations where first aid could have saved their lives. This is the same number of people that die from cancer
2. 500,000 children under five years old go to casualty annually as a results of accidents in the home
3. Children can drown in as little as one inch of water
4. It can take less than four minutes for a blocked airway to kill a child but it takes around eight minutes for an ambulance to arrive
5. Over half of road traffic accident deaths occur before Emergency Services arrive. Of those that were preventable deaths, 85% could have been avoided, if first aid had been given before the ambulance arrived.
These truly are scary statistics, particularly when you are most likely to need first aid to assist a family member or friend. Yet less than 25% of British adults have any first aid training.
Sarah Kohn, First Aid trainer from Early Bird First Aid commented:
"We all live busy lives but spending 3 hours doing a First Aid course could save the life of a loved one, surely that is time well spent."
A recent survey suggested that only 7% of people would feel confident they could carry out first aid on those ill and injured. Sarah Kohn commented "If first aid skills were introduced as a compulsory part of the school curriculum, in the UK, many more people would have the confidence to offer help in an emergency situation."
In Germany and the Scandinavian nations, first aid is already a compulsory part of the school curriculum, which has resulted in up to 80% of people possessing first aid skills.

More about Early Bird First Aid
Early Bird First Aid is an award winning first aid training company, which provides bespoke first aid courses, focusing on teaching parents and childcare workers essential, life-saving techniques.
The company was founded in 2012 by Sarah Kohn, after the birth of her first child made her realize that first aid skills and knowledge are vital tools that parents need, to care for their infants.
Having over 6 years experience teaching a variety of first aid classes, Sarah felt that there was a shortage of courses that provided the right environment, focus and flexibility that busy parents need. And so her company was born.
