WASHINGTON, Feb. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Five facilities in Colorado, Texas, Nevada and Tennessee owned by Landry's, Inc., achieved certification through the American Humane Conservation program for the welfare and humane treatment of animals under their care. They are Downtown Aquarium Denver, Downtown Aquarium Houston, Golden Nugget Las Vegas, Nashville Aquarium, and Kemah Aquarium. With a diverse collection of fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals as well as sharks and rays, these five locations are annually introducing over two million visitors combined to the wonder of aquatic wildlife.
American Humane Conservation launched the first-ever certification program solely devoted to helping verify the humane treatment of animals living in zoos, aquariums, and conservation centers across the globe. The program applies rigorous, evidence-based standards of comprehensive animal welfare, developed by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee comprised of world-renowned leaders in the fields of animal science, animal behavior, welfare, animal ethics, and conservation.
"Congratulations to Landry's and its certified facilities for inspiring so many visitors to want to protect the animals they see and interact with," said Robin Ganzert, Ph.D., American Humane president and CEO. "It's first hand experiences that offer the most persuasive proof that aquariums, with expert humane care, can serve as responsible and productive stewards of animal well-being."
"We are proud to be recognized, and receive, the prestigious 'American Humane Certification for Animal Welfare,'" said Jim Prappas, director of Biology, Landry's, Inc. "We have always been committed to providing the best care for all of the animals within their habitats and feel that we not only meet, but exceed the best practices and industry standards at each of our five Aquarium facilities."
Landry's compliance with the American Humane Conservation standards was verified through an independent audit. You can read more about the American Humane Conservation program here: http://humaneconservation.org/
