Fitch gives Atlantic Renewable Energies' farm AA+ rating
Brazilian company has invested heavily in projects with state-of-the-art technology and high capacity factors
CURITIBA, Brazil, Sept. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ - Atlantic Renewable Energies is increasingly making a name for itself in the wind-powered energy sector as a company committed to fundamental quality features, such as technology, high capacity factors, safety and profitability for investors.
As a result, its Morrinhos wind farm, in Bahia, a state in Brazil's Northeast region, received a Long-Term Domestic Rating of AA+ (exp) (bra) from Fitch Ratings, an international risk-rating agency, on its second issue of debentures. This rating, which is considered high, is for up to R$ 102.5 million in the issuance, which matures in 2027. The project has 180 MW of installed capacity distributed over six wind farms.
The company is owned by British investment fund Actis, the leading company in private equity investments in emerging markets, which has a growing portfolio of investments in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Efficiency is another of the company's differentials. For the second consecutive month, Santa Vitoria wind farm, located in Palmar, in the south of the country, led the capacity factor ranking in its state by registering 54.4% in July, according to the National Electricity System Operator. The largest project of Atlantic Renewable Energy, this farm is in its final construction stage and has an installed capacity of 207 MW, as well as 69 wind turbines distributed among 12 wind farms.
Atlantic invests heavily in research and technology. One innovation was the creation of a Research and Development area in an strategic partnership with Santa Catarina's federal university, which has become a national research benchmark in the wind energy sector. With studies focused on projecting wind and climate trends, Atlantic aims not only to improve its own commitments but also the energy sector as a whole.
In June, Atlantic Renewable Energies started the construction of its latest project in Piaui, the Lagoa do Barro wind farm, located in the southeast of the state. When completed, the project will have eight wind farms and installed capacity of 195 MW generated by 65 wind turbines. The total estimated investment in the wind farm is R$ 1.3 billion.
