Fish & Richardson Principal Jonathan E. Singer Named Minnesota Lawyer 2012 "Attorney of Year" and Law360 "2012 MVP"
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fish & Richardson today announced that Jonathan E. Singer, head of the firm's Life Sciences Practice, has been named Minnesota Lawyer's 2012 "Attorney of the Year" – a designation he has won three times in the past five years. Earlier this month, Singer was recognized by Law360 as a "2012 Appellate Most Valuable Player." Singer will receive his Minnesota Lawyer award on February 21, 2013.
The "Attorneys of the Year" awards are selected based on leadership in the profession and involvement in major cases. The Law360 MVP awards honor attorneys whose accomplishments in major litigation or transactions have raised the bar in corporate law.
In March 2012, Singer won a unanimous 9-0 decision at the U.S. Supreme Court for his long time client Mayo Clinic (Mayo Collaborative Servs. v. Prometheus Labs) in their eight-year patent litigation with Prometheus Laboratories. The Court ruled in Mayo Clinic's favor that Prometheus' two broad drug monitoring patents were invalid and not patent eligible.
Singer's other major 2012 victories include winning a Federal Circuit ruling protecting Allergan's Alphagan P 0.1% glaucoma drug patent until 2022, which preserved over $1.5 billion in sales. He also obtained a Federal Circuit precedential reversal of a district court decision that had invalidated his client Cephalon's Amrix patent claims, thereby preserving Amrix's $140 million annual market until the patents expire in 2024.
Singer received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Chicago Law School (1992) and his A.B. in chemistry from Dartmouth College (1986).
