Fish & Richardson Principal Jay Kugler DeYoung Named to 2018 "Top Women of Law" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly
BOSTON, Aug. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Fish & Richardson principal Jay Kugler DeYoung has been named to the 2018 list of the "Top Women of Law" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (MLW). Each year, MLW singles out an elite group of legal leaders for this prestigious award.
DeYoung is one of the most preeminent life science patent attorneys in the country. She works with leading academic and research institutions, hospitals and life science companies to protect their groundbreaking scientific discoveries. For example, for long-time client Massachusetts General Hospital, DeYoung helped secure worldwide patent protection for a groundbreaking transcriptional activation platform that selectively upregulates individual genes to increase protein levels for therapeutic benefit. For another client, a mid-sized biotech company, she is building a patent portfolio for their "personalized medicine" approach that uses a blood test to guide treatment selection for patients with cardiovascular disease.
DeYoung has served for eight years as a group leader for associates and technology specialists – mentoring and evaluating junior members of the patent group in Fish's Boston office. She has also worked with high school students through Fish's "Most Patentable Invention" program with the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair for the past 16 years. Outside of Fish, DeYoung helped found the Women in Bio, Greater Boston Chapter, and has also been actively involved in the Women's Bar Association of Massachusetts' Mentoring Circles program for nine years.
She received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2000 and her M.S. in biology (2001) and her A.B. (1992) from the University of Chicago.
