BOSTON, Aug. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Fish & Richardson announced today that four principals – Donna Balaguer, Corrin Drakulich, Janis Fraser, Ph.D., and Sheryl Koval Garko – have been named recipients of the 2017 "Women Worth Watching" award and are featured in a special issue of Profiles in Diversity Journal (PDJ). Donna Balaguer is based in Fish's Washington, D.C. office where she advises clients on the full range of privacy and data security laws and best practices, from the early stages of developing a privacy plan to handling a breach. She counsels clients across multiple industries, including hospitality, healthcare, media, communications, manufacturing and retail. Balaguer also works with companies that are building new "Internet of Things" products – everyday objects that collect and transfer personal data about their users. She received her J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994 and her B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University in 1991.
Corrin Drakulich is based in Fish's Atlanta office and specializes in intellectual property litigation. She has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in patent cases spanning a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare technology, turbocharger design, and manufacturing technology. Other areas of expertise include trademark litigation and product liability litigation for medical devices. Drakulich is the hiring principal for the Atlanta office. She received her J.D. from University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 2007 where she was the Editor-in-Chief of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal, and her B.S., summa cum laude, in microbiology from University of Georgia in 2004.
Janis Fraser, Ph.D., who is based in Fish's Boston office, is a scientist-turned-lawyer who specializes in finding practical solutions to biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies' most challenging patent issues. She has been providing strategic patent advice to clients ranging from startup biotech companies to multinational pharmaceutical corporations to academic institutions for over 25 years. Dr. Fraser is particularly knowledgeable about patent issues surrounding antibody therapeutics and personalized medicine. She received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1985, her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976, and her B.S., with highest distinction, in chemistry from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1971.
Sheryl Koval Garko is based in Fish's Boston office where she focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation with a particular emphasis on trademark, copyright, trade secret, and media litigation. She has worked with some of the most recognizable brands in the world, as well as assisting startup companies. Most recently, she represented New Balance in one of Law360's "Top Trademark Rulings of 2016." Garko serves as the national Litigation Marketing Leader at Fish. She received her J.D., with pro bono honors, from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2003, where she was executive editor for the Journal of Law and Politics. She received her A.B., cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1999.
