Fish & Richardson Adds Two Leading Trademark and Copyright Litigators - R. David Hosp and Mark S. Puzella - as Principals
BOSTON, Jan. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fish & Richardson today announced that R. David Hosp and Mark S. Puzella, previously partners at Goodwin Procter, have joined the firm's Boston office as Principals in its IP Litigation Group. Hosp and Puzella will continue to focus their practices on copyright, trademark, false advertising, and licensing disputes for clients such as Aereo, Inc., Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc., Monotype Imaging, Inc., and Iconics, Inc.
Hosp and Puzella recently served as lead counsel for Aereo, Inc. in high-profile copyright litigation brought by the major television networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and PBS, regarding technology that enables consumers to access over-the-air television broadcast signals, make copies of the programming, and watch it anytime on internet-enabled devices. The case has issues similar to those in the Second Circuit's seminal Cartoon Network, et al. v. Cablevision decision, in which Hosp and Puzella were counsel to Cablevision. In the Aereo case, the pair successfully defeated the plaintiffs' request for a preliminary injunction and they are currently handling the appeal of the injunction and the ongoing case at the district court. For long-time client New Balance, they are presently handling a trademark litigation regarding its MINIMUS shoe line.
"These are two important lateral hires for Fish and we are excited to have these talented litigators join our team," said Ann Cathcart Chaplin, Litigation Practice Group Leader at Fish. "Fish is well known for doing more patent litigation than any other firm, but we also have a growing copyright and trademark litigation practice. The addition of David and Mark will help us build on our momentum in this area."
Hosp was recently named Litigator of the Week by The American Lawyer for his role in the Aereo litigation and has been named a leading IP litigator by The Legal 500 and The World Trademark Review 1000. He received his J.D., cum laude, from George Washington University Law School (1994) and his B.A., cum laude, from Dartmouth College (1990).
Puzella also has been named a leading IP litigator by The Legal 500 and The World Trademark Review 1000. He received his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law (1999) and his B.A. from Wesleyan University (1994).
