AKRON, Ohio, July 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstMerit Corporation (Nasdaq: FMER) announced today that its Board of Directors has elected John C. Blickle as Lead Director of the Board. Mr. Blickle also will continue to serve on the Executive, Audit, Compensation, Corporate Governance and Nominating Committees.
As Lead Director, Mr. Blickle's responsibilities will include presiding at all sessions of the Board's independent directors and serving as liaison between the Chairman of the Board and the independent directors.

Mr. Blickle is the President of Rubber City Arches, LLC, Akron, Ohio, which is the owner/operator of 20 McDonald's franchises located throughout northeast Ohio. Previously, Mr. Blickle served in the public accounting field and has extensive public accounting experience qualifying him as a financial expert for purposes of serving on and chairing the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
