SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- To help spread financial awareness, FirstMerit Bank is sending its Mobile Financial Learning Center on the road across the Midwest throughout the summer. The 40-foot bus has been retrofitted into a mobile learning center designed to travel to targeted communities to reach low- to moderate-income individuals and provide tools, information and empowerment for taking control of their financial future.

A ribbon-cutting will take place at 9:00 EDT, Friday, June 17, at FirstMerit's Southfield, Mich., branch, 22575 Telegraph Road. Sandy Pierce, vice chairman of FirstMerit Corporation and chairman and CEO of FirstMerit Michigan, and David Lochner, President of FirstMerit Michigan, will be officiating.

The FirstMerit Mobile Financial Learning Center focuses on:

  • Assisting with accessing and understanding a credit report;
  • Providing credit advice and counseling by community partners;
  • Providing professional financial guidance;
  • Delivering financial education of our banking products and services; and
  • Offering financial empowerment presentations.

Throughout the Mobile Learning Center's travels, FirstMerit is partnering with community organizations to help empower individuals to reach their own financial success.
